DESCRIPTION & LORE
Description
Kalrok's Q (Sentient Glacier) places a short stun on a target unit and then roots the unit and surrounding enemies for a longer amount of time, allowing for him to set up his other spells and begin a teamfight with a heavy initiation, or end a teamfight with the perfect kiting tool. As well as this, he is incentivized to stay in the fight after casting his spells, as the damage the root performs will be increased if he is within attack range of the affected enemies.
Kalrok's W (Hailstorm) is an AOE magic damage cloud, summoned after a short delay that deals damage per second to all enemy units in its area. If any units are dealt damage for more than 2 seconds total, Kalrok gains bonus attack speed per unit, affecting both creeps and heroes. This attack speed is crucial in synergy with his other spells, and the total damage this spell can deal in tandem with a well placed Sentient Glacier is absurd, granted you land just the right timing.
Kalrok's E (Blueheart Blood) causes his attacks to drain the enemies mana based on their current amount and to heal him for an amount relative to the mana drained. This passive also applies a slow to the attacks he performs on enemy units with low mana, and causes his spells to deal more damage to those affected by the slow. The attack slow lasts a short duration however, so high attack speed is key to keep the enemies mana drained and to keep them slowed and debuffed.
Kalrok's R (Coldfront) is a unit target debuff that slows an enemy based on their percentage of missing mana, and lasts longer based on the total amount of mana they are missing. As well as this, spikes of ice will pierce them the longer the slow lasts, dealing bonus magical damage and ministunning. The ability is best used after a long teamfight to chase down the last couple enemies left, as it relies on good mana draining from his passive which can only come from long teamfights where multiple heroes have given Kalrok more attack speed.
His Aghanim's Shards buff is a perfect combo with a heavy spellcasting build. It reduces the cooldown on Sentient Glacier, provides the root with longer duration and higher damage per second, and increases the cast and search range of the glacier. This causes it to be a much greater combo ability and to reach the radius of Hailstorm completely, allowing for greater sustained magic damage and immense control throughout defense or siege scenarios.
His Aghanim's Scepter buff is crucial for the physical damage carry build. It causes Hailstorm's attack speed buff per unit to also grant him bonus base damage, scaling off of his strength and granting more damage for each units affected by Hailstorm for more than 2 seconds. This will allow him to build items other than damage, giving him room in the inventory to focus on stats or spell-based bonuses as his attack speed and damage will be supplied by Hailstorms buffs, provided he can cast it enough throughout the fights.
