DESCRIPTION & LORE
Description
Sonic the Hedgehog is an Agility melee hero who can achieve the fastest movement speed of all heroes and benefits the most from doing so. Sonic's innate, Fastest Thing Alive, let's his movement speed go beyond the 550 max and makes his attack damage / spell damage scale with movement speed, so the faster Sonic gets the more damage he deals. And Sonic can easily achieve high speeds through his ultimate, Momentum, giving him a stacking buff that increases movement speed per 800 distance traveled, with each of his regular abilities helping Sonic to move such distances whilst letting him be an effective ganking/teamfighting hero.
I did my best to represent Sonic's character while having him work with Dota's mechanics. The Homing Attack and Spin Dash (or Sonic Boost with Facet 2) are Sonic's most signature abilities that lets him damage and disable foes while also being good for traversal (the Homing Attack effectively functioning as a jump button, bypassing cliffs/walls). The Blue Tornado is a move only really used in one game, 'Sonic Heroes', but its function worked well to give Sonic a strong disable that particularly combos with the Spin Dash (or Sonic Boost) while also representing his "wind manipulation". And Momentum essentially represents the "momentum physics" of Sonic's 2D games, particularly the Classics, with Sonic starting off fairly slow but picking up speed the more he runs unimpeded, especially when running downhill (which I wanted to represent as well, but not sure if that would be possible with Dota's own physics).
Momentum's Shard upgrade also makes the ultimate double as the "Light Speed Attack" from the Adventure games and Heroes, in which Sonic essentially homing attacks every enemy around him. And of course, Super Sonic had to be represented somehow, and being Sonic's Scepter upgrade made the most sense, with the bonuses being incredibly useful but *hopefully* not overwhelmingly broken as Super Sonic is still vulnerable to Pure damage and can be disabled (in line with most games, where Super Sonic can get slowed or stunned by attacks and obstacles, even if not harmed by them).
[Note: This is my very first serious attempt at "hero design", so the numbers, Talents, and "Strengths/Weaknesses" might not be accurate or balanced. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.]
Lore
And it's that thirst for adventure that got Sonic involved in the War of the Ancients in the first place as he found interest in experiencing a whole new world, with the opportunity to make more friends or, at the very least, beat down evildoers.
