Active / Target point - Swiftly fling a magic card toward the target direction, striking the first enemy unit collided to deal a flat damage plus a percentage of your attack damage (w/ attack modifier), and a heavy but brief movement speed slow. Each strike of Poker makes the next increasingly stronger while repeating any previous effect. The 2nd strike deals a percentage of target‘s max health as magic damage. The 3rd strike steals a flat amount of gold and deals 1 magic damage per 1 insufficient gold. The 4th adds bonus stun. The 5th adds a small AoE. Effects are decided upon cast point based on the stack count at the time. *1 The stack count will revert to 2 for hitting the 5th (treating the next as if it already hit 2 times), or revert to 1 for missing the 5th, or start over from none if not casting more.
*2 In case of multi-hit, the stack count does not increase by more than 1 per cast. *3 Spell amp affects the flat damage and not the self AD portion.

The Poker stack count is at least 1 (going for 2nd hit), and will revert back to 3 or 2 when hitting or missing the 5th. Fling the main card along with +2 multishot (3 cards total per cast, 20-degree apart). Multishot projectiles can multi-hit with themselves. Each projectile has a different behavior in a shuffled fashion: One could strike 2 units (cannot hit the same unit anyhow); one will follow up with an additional projectile on a 1s delay (no effect if the caster is dead), and one will return to the caster's last position from the max distance if hit nothing. The ability icon tells the caster which one is to be aimed with for the next cast; The range indicator also tells which is which. Alt-cast to shuffle which is the main one you aim with. This does not trigger Magic Stick or similar. Shuffle cooldown: 0.6s

AGHANIM'S SHARD

Share the full access of your items with the Gambit illusion, provided the two of you stay in a 1300-radius proximity. This does not duplicate items, meaning things like item usability (mute), usage, charges, cooldown, etc, would stay in sync. For example, Radiance would stop functioning on the main hero for the time being.

This one is quite tricky and took longer than expected to nail down. The core concept of Gambit lies in his namesake ultimate that he holds a wildcard up his sleeve. Making the effect randomized would make a big portion of the kit unstable and too hard to use, yet the design budget could be overspent if it's a basic ability. Ultimately, it took the form of something like a Refresher that let the player decide the kind of gambit they want. The second challenge was finding a proper utility or CC ability with AoE for a character that can do a good amount of spell-casts and right-clicks with good base movement speed plus a mobility-slash-traversal ability, and above-average attack range as well as good animation. These are what make Gambit valuable and fun to play in terms of the "base hero" characteristics compared to heroes that are kind of similar like Gyrocopter, Luna, Lina, Weaver, or even others like Morphling and QoP. After some attempts, it took the form of a theme-fitting Roulette that's kind of random in how it works to avoid being too good to be wielded by such hero archetype, nor too good on its own or just too potent with two boules. Lastly, Poker was simply made to revolve around poking that's neither too powerful on its own (by landing a single one) nor too inefficient for having to land multiple, after it appeared that it would require more than one spell to play a proper, bluff-able poker game of any kind. Ante Up was then finalized soon after with a greater emphasis of chaining multiple ones in quick succession to balance out its usage with the ultimate between other abilities.
